Thanks so much for stopping by! I relate to checking out. It's a fight or flight survival thing, I think. It's nearly impossible to stay engaged 100% of the time. Talk about losing your mind. Aaack.

I agree, it is easier to be complacent. Or at least it was for me. Now the complacency is starting to eat at me. We'll see if that motivates me enough to make the changes!!

I was going to say that I'm glad you're an eggshell person, too, but that is not coming out the way I want it to! What I want to say is that I'm glad the analogy resonated with you. And no apologies needed - this internet is teeming with posts to read. Some get missed along the way (let's blame the Google Reader, shall we?). ;)

Well hello Wonder Friend!
Gigi has mentioned you so here I am. I love this topic!
Why do you think we become complacent, relinquishing control, even when it’s within our grasp?
Because...it can be easier. I think of when my kid's are going crazy and I just can't deal anymore. I check out. I literally check out and just say yes to them when I would normally say no.
When it comes to weight loss I think the same thing, I know what to do etc. it's just committing and sticking with it.

Somehow I missed the post you referenced here, and I apologize for that. It was a great post. I totally get the eggshell person analogy. I am one of those too.

I think the answer to your question is because it's easier to be complacent. It's a lot more work to challenge ourselves and foster change. I mean, we have a ton of stuff going on in our lives...adding major life overhauls to the mix is a bit daunting.

Sometimes, though, those overhauls are forced upon us even when we don't want them to be, and we listen and act and react.
