I was born and raised in TX and I love hearing all of the delightful stereotypes ( I make this statement sarcastically). Fans forget that it is about the game and nothing personal. I can’t believe the obscenity they were uttering… despicable.

I can tell you sportsmanship is a thing of the past, if the obnoxious parents on the sidelines of their children’s soccer games are any indication.

And OMG! Who freakin’ takes their shoes off and puts them on the seat. I would have had to give a whoop ass…in my mind, too, of course.

And I love SWA. You’d be shocked at the people you meet. I flew 6 hours one time with Ralph Nader as my seat mate. He claims he will only fly SWA because of their safety record. He also, of course, knows the head honcho. We had such a lovely flight together. The man is charming and sweet. It was very interesting since it was right after Al Gore lost Florida and the election to George Bush. If you recall, Ralph was blamed for a lot of that for running. He was such a sweet guy. I felt badly after spending time with him, that he’d been blamed for any of that.

I would find it intolerable to be in a stadium full of fans chanting that. I have no tolerance for swearing. I just don’t. I hope that’s something I can teach my child. There are much more intelligent ways to make a point.

Sportsmanship is a tough thing to teach. There are few examples in professional sports.

OK, I need to back up with all this stuff. You see, I’m a Yankee, and you Dixies, your obsession with college ball and your die hard dedication (and hate for the opposing team’s fans), completely boggle my mind.

I will admit that I get fired up…but not to this extent. Like when Canada beat US I wore my Canadian jersey to rub it in to my American friends but that’s innocent fun. Yelling vulgar things is taking it to another level.

Nope, not overreacting about sportsmanship. I do try to teach my kids…it’s “yes, coach” and no pouts if they lose…”or else”- they know what that means (i’m such a toughy) Plan issue: I would have been pissed. Flying is spendy and ew- I hate feet, so gross…and rude!

I totally get the “Texas” thing. I moved from Houston to Alabama 3 years ago… lived in Texas my whole life until then. I get asked all the time if I rode a horse to school. Crazy. Um… no I haven’t… my mom took me in her car… you know the same thing you have here! Or the question, “How is it living in the desert?” Really? Um… the last time I checked Houston was only 20 minutes from the beach. THE BEACH! The Gulf of Mexico! I had to realize they are just dumb and I shouldn’t waste my breath.

Anyway, you are not overreacting about those fans. That is insane! Even living in the middle of the most insane rivalry on the planet (Auburn vs. Alabama) I would never hear F*** You chanted at a game! And I do not know how you kept from saying something to the woman behind on the plane! People just have no respect.

Some fans totally get carried away! Sure, it’s exciting, but seriously, yelling at other fans like they did something wrong? Chalk it up to needing to make others feel bad so they can feel better about them selves, so big and tough with their four letter words.

SWA RULES! Love flying them. Their flight attendants always crack me up. But yes, some people have no courtesy in planes, movie theaters, etc etc. I wonder sometimes if they truly don’t realize I can feel their feet kicking my chair. That’s what the “what the hell, is that a rabid dog behind me? Oh no, it’s just you” look is for. 🙂

Oh, Missy, I think you and I need to take a sports-watching trip together. It seems our taste in fans and fellow plane passengers (and airlines, for that matter) is quite similar.

Isn’t it sad to think that we can’t really bring little kids to sporting events these days? Between the drunken slurs and the poor sportsmanship – not to mention the outrageous ticket price at a lot of events – it doesn’t really seem like a decent option for a family outing.

Glad you survived your trip with your sense of humor intact!
